About a month ago I was looking on twitter and a stylist I follow had posted she was looking for an assistant to help out on the set of a tv show. I am always a bit apprehensive about sending my CV over and applying through twitter for internships and jobs because you never know if they are genuine or not...
On Sunday my phone rang with an unidentified number. I don't like answering my phone to numbers I don't know but good job it did!
Eve Collins the fashion stylist had contacted me, asking if I was still interested in the job and when could I start! She explained to me it was for the new series of A League Of Their Own, so exciting! Through all my excitement I said tomorrow not knowing what the job actually entailed. I then got an email from her with all the information needed for the job.
SHOCK, the hours! 9am till 10pm! I didn't even know these kind of work hours existed. But the dates I had were really nice because I got a day in between to catch up on sleep!
It was my first day yesterday and like any new internship I go to, I am always so nervous with butterflies in my stomach!
I arrived and the team were very nice and welcoming. Every job is different and no day is the same even though its the same job title.
During the day I had to steam and iron all the clothes for the panel to wear, make sure the outfits in the quick change room were in order for the final game, make sure the quick change room was tidy so no one could fall over in all the madness! I had to take a trip into London to get a couple of t-shirts for the show that evening. I had to take the overground, then tube and when I arrived the shop they didn't have the colour we needed. A wasted journey! And the train coming back was so crowded I couldn't even move, love Public transport!
In the evening I helped Eve dress the panel and the special guest celebrities. I cant spill the beans on the guests so you will just have to wait for the shows to be broadcasted. We had to do the returns and make sure the wardrobe area was tidy for next day shooting.
There are not many employers out there that look after their teams like Eve does! She has a lovely team and I really enjoyed my day!
I can't wait for the next 7 days of filming.
